Tender
Never have I ever
… rehearsed, out loud, what I'd say to your partner on our first date.
The card starts with "never have I ever". Before your partner answers, you place a bet. A good bet earns a point, and sometimes a story you'd never heard.
Spicy and Scorching are played in Dareling.
Card 1 of 12. Read it aloud, then pass the phone.
Tender
Never have I ever
… rehearsed, out loud, what I'd say to your partner on our first date.
The phone goes back and forth. Add your first names at the start if you want the cards to use them; leave them blank and the card talks about "your partner". Choose a temperature: Tender for the dinner table, Playful for afterwards.
Never have I ever is usually a party game, where every confession costs a sip. With just the two of you, the mechanic flips. The bet makes you think hard about the person across from you: what you believe you know, what you've guessed without ever checking, what still escapes you. Every wrong bet is a small surprise, and every right one is proof you've been paying attention.
Our cards aren't fishing for anything painful. No exes, no lies, no jealousy to stir up. They're about wants, small acts of daring, moments you've lived or would like to live, with and for each other. What comes out of a game is often something to do next: when one of you has never done something, you've both just found out what's left to try together.
And no drinking needed. The points are enough to give the game stakes, and you keep a clear enough head to enjoy the rest of the night.
Long distance, over video. One person keeps the page open, reads the card, then calls the bet on camera before the other answers. Nothing else changes, except that the stories get told straight into the lens, which gives them a strange intensity.
On a road trip. Bets are called out loud and the stories have the whole drive to unfold. The driver doesn't touch the phone, obviously.
On a weekend away. Play the first night and note the "nevers" that appeal to you. The next day, make one of them happen. Your weekend now has a plan.
For an anniversary. Add a rule: every yes has to be told as if your partner hadn't been there, even when it's a shared memory. Hearing your own story told back to you is oddly moving.
For a betting game where you point at each other instead, try Most likely to. If you'd rather take your time and rediscover each other, the 36 questions are made for that.
The free game stops at Playful. The Dareling app keeps its Spicy and Scorching cards for couples who want to go further, with a safe word set before anything else. The app also keeps the memory of your games in the Book: the answers you didn't see coming, the Coupons you've won, the memories that resurface a few months later.
The daily Dare, which stays free, gives you each one card a day on your own phone, and nothing is revealed until you've both answered. Everything starts without an account, in a few seconds.
The Dareling magazine has more ideas for nights in.
Open the page on one phone and start a video call. Whoever holds the phone reads the card, calls the bet on camera, and then the other person answers. Points are counted the same way as at home. At a distance the stories tend to take up more space, so make the most of it: ask for the details, the place, the time, what you'd have liked to see.
Yes, on Tender. That level is written so it can be played at the table without anyone squirming: the cards are about travel, memories and small, tellable acts of daring. Keep Playful for when you're out of earshot. You can change the level mid-game without starting over, so you get to choose the moment to turn it up.
No. The game opens in your phone's browser: no account, no email address, nothing to install. Two optional first names, and the first card appears. No answer is recorded, since everything is said out loud. If you want to carry on with the Dareling app, it starts the same way, in a few seconds and without an account.
Yes. The Dareling version swaps the sip for a bet: before each answer, you wager on what your partner has already done, and a right bet earns a point. The game keeps its stakes with no alcohol involved. Nothing stops you from raising a glass at every surprise, but it works perfectly well with sparkling water, or with nothing at all.
The best ones are about wants and daring rather than uncomfortable confessions: a place where you've never dared a kiss, a compliment you've never said out loud, a surprise you've never pulled off. Leave out anything about exes or old grievances, which turns the game into an interrogation. Dareling cards are written in that spirit, so each answer gives you an idea.
The game goes on tomorrow.
Dareling is a card a day, a duel at night, and wants that only show when you share them. From tender to red-hot, at your own pace.
